Synod Approved Minister (SAM) Janet Eckman

A little about me. My name is Janet Eckman. I was raised on a dairy farm outside of Sebeka the tail end of 6 kids. I was baptized at Trinity Lutheran in Sebeka that eventually joined with several other area churches and became Our Saviour’s Lutheran in Sebeka where I was confirmed. I have been married for almost 41 years to Todd and we have 3 grown children that are all married. Alicia (Justin), Callie (Jesse) and Sam (Madi). We have 8 grandchildren Dominic (born in 2001 passed away 2002), Ava Sophie, Carter, Jack, Gwen 8, Pennie and Clara.
I have belonged to OSLC (Trinity to begin with) since birth, was confirmed and Married at OSLC. My husband Todd was baptized at the same time as our oldest daughter was. All three of my children were baptized and confirmed at OSLC. I have taught Sunday School, Bible School, served on OSLC Council several times with roles of Secretary, President, Worship Committee and currently Treasurer. My term on council will end in February.
When Pastor Eric gave us the news about his new call and that he would be leaving OSLC, and Balsamlund I ran across the Synod Approved Ministry information on the NW Minnesota Synod Website. God was calling me onto a new path. I researched what it would take to become a Synod Approved Minister (SAM) and asked council and Pastor Eric their thoughts and they were so encouraging I really felt God was calling me to do this. Most at OSLC know this as I have said it to them many times – If you would have asked me when I was confirmed that I would be doing something like this I might have laughed and said NO WAY. I certainly don’t feel qualified but as Pastor Rachel said many times you don’t need to feel qualified, but you may be “Callified”. In faith I was called to this journey and will continue learning and serving God with all of you.
